Application of Dual Silane Coupling Agent-Assisted Surface-Modified Quartz Powder in Epoxy Matrix for Performance Enhancement

Quartz powder (QP) is an inorganic filler that expected to significantly enhance the dielectric and mechanical properties of epoxy (EP)-based composites applied in copper clad laminates molding compounds for 5G applications. As well-known, performance QP–EP directly correlated with dispersion effect compatibility QP EP matrix. Herein, we propose surface modification method by mixing SCAs different alkyl chain lengths contain amino carbonyl groups. Different characterization methods (FTIR, TGA, XPS, SEM, contact angle measurement, viscosity, properties) molecular dynamics simulation were adopted study its mechanism. Through dual SCA modification, viscosity was reduced 11.70%, flexural tensile strengths increased 16.89% 30.01%, respectively. In addition, it revealed superiority originated from synergistic between APTES SPIS, electrostatic repulsion force groups two caused a steric hindrance activated stabilization thus resulting better excellent compatibility. Meanwhile, interacted matrix via chemical bonds hydrogen bonds, strengthening interfacial adhesion improving composites.
